Night Grinding (Bruxism)

Night grinding, or bruxism, is the habitual clenching and grinding of the teeth, especially during sleep. Most people are unaware of this habit, but the damage can be very serious.

Have you ever noticed that your front teeth seem to be getting shorter or chipping off?
Are your front teeth flat or uneven?
Are your back teeth sensitive or do they hurt?
Do your fillings break or do you have crowns that have broken?
Do you have headaches in the mornings or frequently during the day?
Do you have popping or sore jaw joints when you open and close or yawn?
Are the muscles in your neck, shoulders, or face sore or tense in the morning?

Any of the above can indicate a serious night grinding habit. If left untreated, severe damage to the teeth and jaw joints can occur, which may make extensive reconstruction necessary.
